5G Core SDN-NFV Network Engineer
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage the porting of VNF, CNF modules into on-prem server farms, hybrid, or public cloud platforms to optimize system performance and reliability.
- Oversee the launch of SDN and NFV modules (UPF, AMF, SMF, NRF, NSSF, PCF, etc.,) including porting, creation, configuration, auditing, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal functionality.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and validate Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) and Containerized Network Functions (CNFs), ensuring seamless operation and validating interconnection paths and orchestration capabilities.
- Collect, manage, and troubleshoot logs of VNFs / CNFs, utilizing tools such as Wireshark, NetScout to ensure effective communication and seamless operation.
- Test and validate message communication protocols between VNFs / CNFs to guarantee smooth communication and interaction within the network.
- Monitor end-to-end system endpoints, promptly resolving observed issues and problems to maintain system integrity and functionality.
- Conduct test case-based validation of individual VNFs / CNFs, focusing on critical aspects such as Registration, Authentication, and UE data and context management to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
- Understand and validate interface protocols between VNFs / CNFs in the 5G Core network, ensuring compatibility and seamless integration.
- Employ effective communication and comprehension skills to facilitate clear and efficient communication within the team and across stakeholders, ensuring smooth collaboration and coordination.
- Working knowledge of 3GPP 5G SA voice and packet core architecture.
- Experience in implementing, integrating, testing and deploying solutions in 5G and IMS core domain.
- Understanding of 5G signaling and packet core functions incl NRF, NSSF, PCF, NEF, SCP, BSF, SEPP, UPF, AMF, SMF.
- Deploy and support 5G signaling (PCF/NRF/BSF/SCP/SEPP) and packet core network (AMF/SMF/UPF/NSSF) functions over public cloud standalone 5G network.
- Involved in monitoring the system health of signaling network functions using KPIs and alarms.
- Participate in the investigation of innovative 5G technologies to improve the network virtualization infrastructure.
- Design and implement SDN and NFV architectures, including planning, deployment, and integration of virtualized network functions.
- Develop and optimize network infrastructure leveraging SDN controllers (e.g., Open Daylight, ONOS) and NFV orchestrators (e.g., OpenStack, ETSI MANO)
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud networking.
- Build and manage AWS product features for Enhanced Networking like VPC, API Gateway, CloudFront, Route 53, Cloud WAN, Direct Connect, Private Link, Transit Gateway, Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), etc.
- Understands concepts of Infrastructure-As-Code, automated deployments, and cluster management within a CI/CD Pipeline.
- Networking technologies: Routing Protocols (BGP, EIGRP & OSPF), VRFs, VLANs, VRRP, LACP, MLAG, TACACS / Rancid / GIT, IPSec VPN, DNS / DHCP, NAT / SNAT, IP Multicast, VPC, Transit Gateway, NAT Gateway, ALB/ELB, Security Groups, ACL, HSRP, VRRP, SNMP, DHCP
- Manage CDN, Links, VPN technologies, SDN, SDWAN, and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), VXLAN, VRF
- Experience in design and management of Cloud and Hybrid cloud infrastructure,
- Familiar with Devops and CI/CD methodology. Knowledge of Protocol Analysis, Wireshark, NetScout, RADCOM or other similar tools.
- Working knowledge in a Virtualization platform based on a Cloud Native Principle.
- Familiarity with containers and relevant technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker or Open shift.
- Experience in Kubernetes regarding containers / Microservices principles.
- Has provided lower-tier support for:
- Bare-metal and virtual machines.
- Cloud-native environments.
- Network equipment.
- Network configuration automation (Scripting with Perl/Python/Bash/Terraform, Ansible)
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in 5G Core Network architecture on SDN-NFV platform.
- Working knowledge on one of the cloud platforms such as VMWare, AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Proficiency with Docker & Kubernetes Containers, Artifacts, and Orchestration platforms.
- Exposure to generic principles of CI/CD DevOps practices and platforms like Jenkins, GCP container builder, Azure DevOps, Gitlab, and Veracode.
- Experience using data visualization platforms like Grafana, Tableau & Kibana
- Familiarity with Telecom/Networking protocols such as HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP, ICMP, and load balancing.
- Working knowledge of 3GPP 5G SA voice and packet core architecture.
- Experience in implementing, integrating, testing and deploying solutions in 5G and IMS core domain.
- Understands concepts of SDN and NFV architecture.
- Understands concepts of MOCN and MORAN architecture
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in EC, Telecommunication, Computer Science (CS), Computer Engineering (CE), or equivalent field.
- 3 - 4 years of hands-on experience with SDN, NFV architecture of 5G Core network, LTE Core NW, and CUPS framework of Packet Core NW architecture.
- Proficiency with one of the cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP, including understanding of IAAS, PaaS, and SaaS based architecture.
